How Smart Room Technology is Transforming Veteran Care
Andy Figallo, VP of Partner Success, discusses our Veteran-first approach to the design and implementation of smart room technology at the VA.
At eVideon, we are honored to serve those who serve us by enriching the healthcare experience for Veterans and their families. For over a decade, eVideon has reshaped healthcare experiences for Veterans, offering tools that empower them to take charge of their care. With more than 2,500 devices deployed across VA facilities nationwide, the Vibe Health smart room platform modernizes how veterans interact with their healthcare environment and care teams.
The Vibe Health system is designed to be relevant for each individual veteran and meets the VA’s stringent requirements. Custom features like personalized signage, real-time surveys, and room controls create a more accessible and patient-centered VIP experience.
System integration with related services like educational content, entertainment, telehealth, and meal ordering helps create a more complete patient experience. As the first interactive patient care system offering bi-directional integration with VistA and CPRS, it maintains the highest levels of security and compliance.
In our webinar, Revolutionizing Veteran Care: The Impact of Smart Room Technology in VA Hospitals, we offer a comprehensive look at how the Vibe Health platform is changing veteran care for the better.
These are a few highlights from the webinar:
Personalized Entertainment and Education
Tailored to veterans' diverse needs, the Engage TV system converts standard hospital room televisions into interactive care platforms. Here are a few examples.
- Veterans can access a range of entertainment and educational content. They can choose to watch movies or relaxation programming.
- Customized health education videos, with curated playlists available in different languages, give Veterans information they need to manage their own care.
- Live and recorded chapel services provide spiritual support.
- Veterans can also use interactive features like trivia or block games for mental stimulation and distraction therapy. One VA unit, for example, hosts virtual trivia nights.
- Each Veteran can stay in their own room but team up and play with their colleagues down the hall.
Enhanced Independence and Accessibility
Interactive tools empower Veterans to independently control their room environment. Integration with assistive devices, including sip-and-puff controls, voice commands, and eye-tracking technology, accommodates each Veteran's unique physical capabilities.
Veterans can order their own meals, customized to their dietary restrictions, using digital meal ordering. We’ll even flag orders that are outside their dietary restrictions and provide rationale based on their nutritional needs. Veterans can issue direct requests to specific departments like pharmacy or chaplain services, bypassing traditional nurse call buttons. Companion tablets in shared spaces protect privacy, and access to VA resources like the Veteran News Network keeps them informed.
Real-Time Communication and Care Coordination
For attentive and transparent care, eVideon Insight enables instant updates to critical health information and facilitates clear communication between Veterans, families, and care teams. The Aware Digital Door Sign displays all the information necessary – such as isolation precautions, fall risk indications, or dietary restrictions – to the care team or family members before they walk into a patient room.
Surveys conducted via the platform ensure Veterans' voices are heard and addressed immediately. For example, pulse surveys via the platform can gauge things like medication awareness, room cleanliness or staff treatment.
Real-time access to care plans and daily schedules empowers Veterans and helps nursing staff provide streamlined, personalized care. Digital signage throughout VA facilities keeps Veterans and their families informed, displaying VA events, department wait times, available services, shuttle schedules, and critical crisis hotline information.
A Commitment to Service
eVideon continues to innovate with new features including compliance with IPv6 requirements, integration with virtual care platforms, Real-Time Location System (RTLS) technology, and expanded digital whiteboard capabilities for specialized units.
Developed with input from Veterans and their families, Vibe Health reflects a shared goal: ensuring our heroes receive care as innovative as it is compassionate.
