Video on Demand

Videon on Demand technology means you get to watch what you want, when you want. eVideon provides a simple and robust solution for on-demand movies in a healthcare setting. In the digital world, each video you watch on demand is actually a file sitting on a server. The essence of a good VOD system is that the end user doesn’t have to think about it. Watching a video is a seamless transaction from an intuitive user interface, be it a web browser or a TV screen. An eVideon solution makes VOD painless and powerful.

Real Time vs. Progressive Download VOD

There are different ways to deliver video on demand (VoD). The two primary ways eVideon delivers on-demand content are:

Real Time Streaming

The eVideon VOD Server provides Real Time Streaming. That means it never downloads any media, but instead plays it out “real time” on your computer screen or TV. In fact, to play video on demand on a TV, an IPTV Set Top Box is required and so is a Real Time Streaming server.Realtime streaming allows for “Trick Play” functionality. Trick play is what gives your streaming video the ability to Fast Forward, Rewind, Pause, or seek directly to a specific location in the video you are watching.

The eVideon VOD Server utilizes the Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) and can deliver MPEG-2 and H.264 video.

Progressive Download

Progressive Download means that a video gradually (progressively!) downloads to a temporary place on your computer. Once enough of the video is downloaded, or buffered, it plays. This is a great delivery method for many people’s needs, and comes as a built in feature of the eVideon Application Server.
